It is the musical sensation of the year: Two of Europe’s biggest musical stars will play the lead roles in the new Stage Entertainment and Landestheater Linz production of Ghost – das Musical, opening on 7 December in Berlin! Willemijn Verkaik and Alexander Klaws will be Molly and Sam in this completely new production of the film classic.

Two months before opening night, Stage Theater des Westens is already very busy promoting the show in a high-visibility campaign featuring its popular stars. They can be seen on posters all over Berlin and in a new promotional trailer that was just released—with an immediate bump in sales as a result.

This August, Willemijn and Alexander met in Hamburg for their first promotional shoot.  ‘I have never promoted a show so early on,’ says Alexander, who spent the summer working as ‘Old Surehand’ at a Western open-air spectacle in northern Germany.

Willemijn had just finished her historic ten-year run in Wicked with final performances in London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre. Both came to Hamburg for a memorable three-day marathon of photo and video shoots, plus a recording of a duet version of the unforgettable ‘Unchained Melody’, the musical’s theme song.

In mid-September, Willemijn and Alexander were officially presented to the press and fans in Berlin where they performed the famous pottery scene that was one of the highlights of the 1990 film starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze.

Ghost is actually a show about two people and their true love,’ Willemijn says. ‘But this love ends in a second, when Sam dies. It’s one of our biggest fears—a big love that ends in a moment. And you can´t do anything about it. You don´t even have the chance to say good-bye.’

‘This story shows all of us that we should live every moment to the fullest, especially with the one you love,’ Alexander adds. ‘Because this can happen to anyone!’

‘Believing in true love’ is the key positioning of the show, and this is clearly visible in the new key-visual, the promotional trailer and in the ‘Unchained Melody’ music video to be released in October. By then the cast of Ghost – das Musical will have started rehearsals and be hard at work on bringing the story of Molly and Sam live to the stage. From 7 December onwards in Stage Theater des Westens in Berlin.
